Lately Ethan has been enjoying playing in the greenbelt near our home. He’s becoming quite fond of hiding behind the palm trees, running around, and generally making sure all the neighbors know his whereabouts. I like to bring along the camera! The highlight of this recent romp was “catching” snails (pretty easy to catch, as they’re not too fast). I’ll post an image of the snail hunt tomorrow. For now, this pic caught my eye.

“More than 8,000 years ago, the first inhabitants were undoubtedly impressed by fertile foothills to the north and the creek coursing through the canyon flowing into the great ocean to the south. Along the creek, the ancient Chumash peoples built their hut villages and devoted themselves to harvesting the bounty of the sea. Dark-haired men constructed canoes using indigenous woods, hammer-stones and caulking cakes of fused tar. Time is of a premium around here, as of late. So, the blog has been a bit quiet. But I’m aiming to post images more frequently. Right now I’m catching up on the many photographs we took on our “camping” trip to El Capitan last month. Figured I’d spread out the El Capitan series by posting a photo or two a day. Will also drop in a bit a history…but will save that for tomorrow. For now, an image of Ethan on the water’s edge….sundown. The beach was about a 15-minute walk from our cabin. The solidarity, and meditative-like vibe caught my eye. Not much in the way of “golden hour” color in the sky…but the flatness certainly captures the chill of the evening (afterward we warmed up by the fire and made s’mores).

Ella’s become quite fond of this little guy.

Breaking in the new scooter…it’s all about the gear!

Ethan is fearless when it comes to the water.

Ella gets the hang of it quickly.

A Thursday evening dinner at Crystal Cove beach. The Summer crowds are slowly shrinking, so we’re now making an effort to get down to the beach more frequently throughout the week. Gia made a great dinner…roasted chicken sandwiches with all the fixins. Ethan and I then fed the seaguls and dug for some sand crabs.
