My brother-in-law Dave is in town, so we headed out to the Home Depot Center last night to enjoy the Oscar De La Hoya/Steve Forbes bout. Dave grabbed this awesome picture of the HBO crew (we were up and close and personal).
Our post-fight agenda included some good eats and 747-watching at the Tom Bradley terminal at LAX.
Thanks to Heather Morton (art buyer blog), I recently discovered the work of Derek Shapton. My favorites include his people images, along with his documentary and editorial work.
Derek’s most recent personal/fine art project, ‘Here,” takes him back to his childhood stomping grounds.
In his words, “For the past year, I have been revisiting and photographing the locations of vivid early memories, ranging from the sidewalk in front of my childhood house to the park I used to play in to the former location of the pool where I first learned to swim. The images in Here are selections from this ongoing exploration.”
“The series had its genesis as I played with my two and a half year old son. His awareness and understanding of the world is developing incredibly quickly, and it occurred to me that my earliest recollections are from when I was just a little older than he is.”
Derek is an inspiration. Think about what he says at the 2:00 mark on the video below (so true). I dig his work…do you?
