I love this. Amtrak police arrest a man for taking photographs for Amtrak’s very own sponsored photo contest.
Beyond the comedic genius of Colbert and Comedy Central’s writing crew — this clearly illustrates the challenges photographers (professional and amateur alike) are facing in today’s environment. I understand and respect valid security concerns with regards to the usage of cameras and photography. Yet, as the Colbert Report has so eloquently illustrated, we just “may” have crossed the line.

That’s hilarious!!! I seriously feel like that guy whenever I’m in a situation like that. Like at the airport, or when a cop drives by through my shot. Suddenly I feel like I’m doing something wrong!
Awesome this is sooo funny. Us photographers ARE a threat, watch out! =)
Right on Brotha! That’s why my manifesto says “Shoot first, answer question if you get caught”. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve been nearly tackled by the “authorities” for doing my job. The crazy thing though, is when I’m actually trying to attract attention- Nothing. But when I’m discretely shooting something harmless, it’s all over. My best advise is; make a lot of noise and look like you belong there (funny how that’s the same advise you give to avoid being mugged)!
I hope he was able to sue big time and make it seriously worth his while.
Myself and 20 models and a few crew people were all threatened with arrest for shooting *near* abandoned tracks in Atlanta.
…..rough sauce.
