Saturday + Pursuits + Coltrane

A favorite read is the weekend edition of the Wall Street Journal.  Being the weekend, I always start with the Pursuits section and slowly work my way (backwards) to the front page.  Today’s gold nugget is the TRANEUMENTARY podcast reviewed in Picks…Page P2. Quoting, "The Traneumentary is a documentary presented in podcast form. The five-minute installments each provide different Jazz musicians offering recollections of Coltrane, as the legendary saxaphonist’s music plays in the background…." The artists inlcude some who played with Mr. Coltrane, such as pianist McCoy Tyner and drummer Jimmy Cobb.  The podcast’s creator, Joseph Vella, is a media consultant and former musician.  He’s interviewed dozens of musicians for the series and posts a new episode each week.  Very cool.

Doces + Yummy

For all the wedding planners and event coordinators that read this blog (or for those that simply want to make a great impression at their next party or event), our good friend Karina recently launched a fantastic business that you should know about…DOCES.  Check-out the mouth watering description below, and be sure to bookmark their website.  We’ve had the pleasure of tasting these treats, and they are amazing.

A Doce is a Brazilian tradition in every celebration from small birthday parties to huge elegant weddings.  This Brazilian treat is basically a bite size roll that melts in your mouth and they come in many different varieties (DOCES offers 8 varieties including chocolate, coconut, peanut butter, walnut and Brazilian nut and apricot).  Doces also offers seasonal and limited edition sweets.  www.mydoces.com.

Sunday With My Son - Collection #1

I started a new tradition with Ethan last Sunday — “Sunday With My Son”

We get up early in the morning (before the rest of the family is awake) and spend a couple hours exploring. We’re going to aim for one Sunday per month. Then, at the end of the year, I’m going to assemble a coffee table book of the images with some text. This past Sunday we hit the San Juan Capistrano Train Depot and the beach. Here are a few of the selects.

Family + Love

I had a wonderful time photographing the Donahue family this weekend. Julia (age 2) was a “photographer’s dream,” smiling, laughing and playing for 2+ hours straight. In fact, the immense love and laughter shared among this family is amazing to witness. Thank you Donahue’s for welcoming me into your home, and providing such great opportunities to capture the beauty of your family.

Here’s a sneak peak, followed by a link to the slideshow.

Bubble Toes

Thank you for all the kind e-mails and comments regarding the first issue of the monthly e-newsletter (if you didn’t receive it, and wish to, drop me an e-mail and I’ll add you to the subscriber list).

Today’s image is the result of a recent lazy Sunday morning. Every morning the kids end up in our bed (and “enthusiastic” bouncing and jumping always ensues). This photo was captured in a very rare moment of Sunday morning calm…in this instance, just before the toes hit the floor.

Looking at it now reminds me of Jack Johnson’s song “Bubble Toes.” These lyrics in particular:
“It’s as simple as something that nobody knows,
that her eyes are as big as her bubble toes…
It’s as common as something that nobody knows,
that her beauty will follow wherever she goes.”

As always, thanks for reading and looking…

There’s no question I’m an Apple “fan-boy.” In fact, I’ve watched Steve’s keynote address twice now.
